Business Systems Engineer

SearchDATA Group are looking for a Business Systems Engineer to join a growing logistics and distribution business.

The role is a Fixed Term contract

This person would be responsible for understanding business needs and leading the process to gather requirements, identify and/or design new solutions, and ultimately oversee the final implementation including training and testing.

You will be working with people in the business to understand key sales order business processes underpinned by a legacy system (MS Access) and moving this functionality into a modern workflow system. This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody wanting to be involved in the full system life-cycle.


Software Modifications and configuration

Software development and coding

  • Configure ERP, CRM and Workflow systems to achieve business requirements
  • Roll-out new systems and functionality
  • Assess other business impacts and un-intended impacts of change
  • Liaison with ERP, CRM and Workflow software providers where required
  • Manage stakeholders and software providers and agree compromises where required


  • Support of Training function for specialised areas as required
  • Reporting on system adoption
  • An element of change/ Project Management
  • Producing change documentation of any change to live system focussing on risk, business impact and provision of rollback method
  • Data migrations

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Background in programming preferably using Visual Studio, C# and .NET
  • Strong experience of managing multiple business critical systems (CRM, ERP, WMS, Workflow, ticketing systems, order management systems etc)
  • Strong knowledge of MS Access
  • Strong experience of business systems configuration and deployment
  • Strong SQL skills for creating views, queries and reports
  • Data transformation
  • Ability to plan and schedule work to meet business timescales and deadlines
  • Experience of improvement projects using a business-critical system
  • Experience of systems development
  • Experience of systems testing
  • Knowledge of the logistics / distribution industry would be highly beneficial
  • Skills in developing and improving business process
  • Demonstrable documentation skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Logical thinking with sound problem solving skills
  • MS MQL Server experience

Some knowledge and experience of ecommerce Magento, Word Press or Shopify would be useful but is not essential.
