The Head of Business Systems role is responsible for the strategic leadership and overall management of all business systems and associated functions. This role will also be responsible for IT Programme management across all business systems. 

This is a brand-new role within the organisation and a fantastic opportunity for somebody wanting to be involved in the ownership of the full business system life-cycle in a growing and developing logistics business.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Contribute towards functional and company strategy by identifying and leading growth enabling initiatives 
  • Manage key internal and customer stakeholders across a number of different operating companies keeping all informed and appraised on all initiatives 
  • Develop the IT strategy into a roadmap of budgeted and planned projects and initiatives 
  • Communicate vision, strategy, and roadmaps internally and externally as appropriate 
  • Ensure business systems are fit for purpose and able to deliver business objectives 
  • Ensure processes and business systems are integrated and provide comprehensive management information 
  • Ensure digital initiatives maximise commercial opportunities, deliver planned revenue and create long-term value 
  • Ensure capacity planning is undertaken for all business system platforms 
  • Provide guidance and hands on support for senior managers to ensure they are able to meet the programme objectives and deliverables 
  • Monitor programme expenditure & costs against delivered benefits 
  • Measure and evaluate return on investment and realised benefit over time 
  • Identifying issues and initiating appropriate corrective action 
  • Ensure all staff are well trained and make best use of the available IT, including the creation of inter-divisional workstreams and champions 
  • Create commercially astute, stable partnerships with IT suppliers and partners 
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory frameworks and requirements of client and partner contracts 
  • Ensure appropriate disaster recovery (and business continuity) plans are in place and regularly tested 
  • Foster and drive innovation throughout the business, by spending considerable time alongside our clients and operational teams. This will involve spending time with these stakeholders and understanding what our clients really want from our IT capabilities 
  • Liaise with IT infrastructure and development teams to make sure there is alignment across all system project plans 

Person Specification: 

  • Knowledge of business-critical systems such as: 
  • ERP 
  • WMS 
  • Workflow Systems 
  • CRM 
  • TMS 
  • Workforce management systems (desirable) 
  • Carrier management (highly desirable) 
  • Experience of leading and delivering IT programmes with multiple projects running in tandem 
  • Having a vision is essential 
  • Proactive and business-driven 
  • A great, positive communicator 
  • Excellent presentation skills 
  • Able to present information clearly and concisely using all the available mediums to different audiences 
  • A listener and analytical thinker 
  • Prince2 Project Management 
  • Comprehensive and up to date knowledge of IT and market innovations

  • Strategic business planning skills

  • Advanced negotiator 

Experience 

  • You will have spent a minimum of seven years delivering IT or digital projects across a similar sized business 
  • Knowledge or experience of working across multiple operating companies 
  • Knowledge of the Logistics industry would be highly beneficial
